NEW HUNKY'S LOCATION

The demo has begun on the old Crossroads Market location ... soon-to-be Hunky's new location. Heard from a friend that the last proprietor of Crossroads knew about Hunky's intentions a year ago. Oh, well, now that The Lamp Post has scooped the queer rag, we'll keep you updated with photos and info.

I watched the playback of ABC's 8 PM Barbara Walters Special. Sorry they included Al Sharpton's icky comment directly to MJ's kids, "There was nothing strange about your daddy." But there was. Al wasn't the only one to bring "it" up! We all saw MJ degrade from a true performance genius to a creepy weirdo. Today we saw everyone dance, sing and talk around the gold casket in the Staples Center.

If You Wanna Smoke at JR's in Dallas This Summer ...

... you're gonna be hot in all the wrong ways!
Since April 2009, smoking is no longer allowed inside bars in Dallas. Most gay bars had a way to handle it, including JR's.
The upstairs has garage doors that raise and lower so that is the smoking area.
BUT ONLY when all four doors are up. [Torrential downpours like we had in June means all the doors were down and there was NO SMOKING inside the bar.]

The Tecali Is Gone

It's been replaced by The Dylan with starting rents astronomically higher than The Tecali.

I have my own memories of The Tecali ... like going home with the same dancer-body guy to the same unit ... twice ... two years apart. WHAT!? A young gay man who stayed in the same apartment for two years+. Hmmm. Why move when he had a great place [very little furniture] close to the bars?

Terry & The Case of The Freakishly Long Toes

I hate feet: they are ugly and totally not sexy, thus I never look at them.
However I have noticed that the young men these days, despite the obvious danger of wearing flip-flops into bars with all kinds of glass ... sometimes broken as it hits the floor where feet are ... have made bare feet a trend.
Terry went farther this evening. He noticed that some of the younger generation have freakishly long toes. [There's a reason I don't wear flip-flops ever ... besides the broken glass thing.]
I suggested an extension of the old big feet, big cock wives' tale to a new one: big toes, big cock. He would have none of it.
And I would still have no clue about what might be waiting for me since I hate feet: they are ugly and totally not sexy, thus I never look at them.

I was visiting with a group of guys, some of them younger than me [What?] and some my age. We were talking about our electricity bills. I kept saying "my light bill' ... that's what my parents called it. One of the younger guys, with a quizzical look on his face asked, "Do you have a separate bill for your computer?"

Memories of The Old Plantation

On one of my first visits to Dallas from Kansas City back in the mid-70's, a friend took me to The Old Plantation. The one with the stage and red velvet curtain and the verandas/bars all around the dance floor. When the show started and "women" performed, I asked my friend why there were female performers in a gay bar and he said, "Those aren't women." I was dumbfounded! I had never seen drag in my hometown of KC!

There is a lamp post inside one of our favorite gayborhood bars in Dallas, TX. Thus, the name of this blog.
The concept seed for this blog came from the fact that I have lived in and around the Dallas Gayborhood for many years. I have stories and I've heard stories and I have hopes for this old neighborhood.
